International Students
Maternidad La Luz is authorized under federal law to enroll nonimmigrant students. International students should apply to Maternidad La Luz using the regular application and, upon acceptance, MLL will file the appropriate forms with the US Government and copies will be sent to the applicant.
Students from Canada, Mexico, the United Kingdom, Puerto Rico, Japan, Argentina, Bolivia, Israel, Hungary, and South Africa, amongst others, have studied at Maternidad La Luz.
Students should be aware of the legalities of practicing midwifery in their resident countries.
They should also consider how the program at Maternidad La Luz fits into the requirements where they plan to practice.
In many cases the program at Maternidad La Luz has been used to facilitate licensure or registration in other countries.
Students from other countries have been able to adapt easily to the bicultural setting of the El Paso / Juarez area.
The cost of living in El Paso is one of the lowest in the United States and housing is easily available and economical.
The crime rate is low and the people are very friendly.
We attempt to have an international focus in our classes at Maternidad La Luz.
As the clientele in the birthing center is international, we feel that foreign students add different and welcome perspectives in midwifery and life experiences
