    Other Expenses
  •  Students spend an average of of $600 -$1,000 a month, including rent, while living in El Paso. There are often students looking for roommates.  We will help those interested in sharing accommodations connect with each other.  Please e-mail [email protected] with information about housing requirements, and any other pertinent information.
  • There are several required books that are used in the clinical placement.  A list of these books is sent with the acceptance letter, which includes NARM's Reference List.  We recommend all students have these books as references in their own libraries.  Estimated cost of books is $500 to $800.  All required books may be found in the MLL library, and may be used on site only.
  • Students need to possess a working cell phone, the cost of which is borne by the student.
  • All midwifery and emergency equipment is provided at the birth center.  Students do not need to purchase equipment and supplies of their own, but are welcome to do so if they desire.
  • Scrubs, close-toed shoes, and a watch with a second hand are to be worn during all clinical shifts.  Students need to purchase at least three sets of scrubs before starting at MLL.  There are many used clothing stores in El Paso that sell scrubs at very low cost.
  • Required training in adult CPR costs between $50 to $100 usd, depending on  your area.
  • Required training in Neonatal resuscitation varies in cost, but can be up to $200 usd (may be taken on site), depending on your area.
  • It is recommended that everyone have personal health insurance; its cost is borne by the individual.
  • Each student must have reliable transportation available to them 24/7. Finances for general car maintenance and insurance need to be considered.
  • Upon passing NARM, student may apply for a Texas state license. Costs vary state by state, but generally start at $250 usd. Renewal of license is generally required every 2 to 3 years. Each student is responsible for knowing their state or jurisdiction licensing requirements
Financial Assistance
  • Students who are enrolled in a college or university may be able to arrange financial aid through their school.
  • Local women's groups or Chambers of Commerce may provide grants.
  • State work force agencies and state rehabilitation agencies have provided financial aid to Maternidad La Luz students in the past.
  • Private loans may be available for those who qualify through their bank or credit union.
  • Maternidad La Luz is not enrolled in the Title IV Federal Student Loan Program.

 Refund Policy
At this time, Maternidad La Luz has a strict no-refund policy. Once a student has started at the clinic, all fees are expected to be paid in full according the timeline given on the acceptance letter.
If an applicant decides not to attend prior to orientation, they must notify the director at least 30 days before the first day of clinic to receive any refund of the orientation fee. The application fee is non-refundable.
