Clinic life for students at MLL provides a unique experience full on hands-on learning. Every day at the clinic looks a little different and provides different learning experiences according to what is happening at the clinic.
While on a clinical placement, students are expected:
to arrive at the birth center on time- shifts start at either 8:00am or 8:00pm.
to wear masks when interacting with clients
to wear scrubs, closed-toed shoes, and have their hair tied up and back while on shift
to communicate to the First-on midwife and clinical director regarding absences, changes in schedule, problems, etc.
to stay at the clinic the entirety of their shift
The student will have the option of 12 or 24-hour shifts. Shifts at the clinic are considered to be "on-call" shifts, meaning students are expected to work when clients are on premises, and have the freedom to do other activities (such as studying) when time allows.
Maternidad La Luz could not run the way it does without the hard work and support of its' students, and we are so grateful for each of them. We want your time as a student at MLL to be educating, inspiring, and growth oriented. If there is something we can do to help you during your process or time as a student, we want to know what it is! Please reach out to the staff midwives with your requests.
